ADA announces collaboration with SugarByHalf

The ADA has entered into a collaborative arrangement with SugarByHalf to raise awareness among school students across Australia about the need to reduce their intake of added sugar.

The curriculum will be developed in conjunction with Cool Australia and will be available to teachers in subject areas including English, Maths, Science and Health & Physical Education.

The program will raise awareness among students of the food systems and environments that impact on health and equip them to make healthy nutritional decisions and initiate action at home.

It will also activate teachers and students to lead change that creates healthy environments at school or in the wider community.

In particular, the funding from the ADA will support the delivery of lessons for primary school children to help them grow awareness of how different foods affect teeth and form healthy habits. Secondary students will explore the science of sugar, its effect on the body and use data to learn more about the rates of tooth decay across populations and the impact of sugar on health and teeth.

This initiative is another part of the ADA’s oral health promotion strategy and hopes to create long term change to the oral health or future generations.
