HR Update - The Latest Changes - Thursday 30 June 2022

You would be forgiven for thinking that we have returned to a degree of stability as we emerge from the COVID pandemic and practices settle into the “new norm”.

Having said that, a number of significant developments in the industrial relations space has and will occur in 2022 and 2023. These changes will likely have a direct impact upon practices and will require consideration/action. 

Some of these matters including:
Having recently formed a Government, the Labor party have promised significant reform in key areas of industrial practice. While the final details are yet to be provided, significant commentary was provided throughout the election campaign which provides a strong indication of the changes likely to be introduced.

The Fair Work Commission has, and will issue a number of critical decisions which will impact upon all practices including the introduction of paid Domestic and Family Violence Leave and increased minimum award rates of pay. 

A recent decision of the High Court has indicated that the terms and conditions contained within an Independent Contractor Agreement will be a primary consideration when determining whether a person is properly considered an employee or contractor. Given the frequent use of the contractor engagement model in the dental profession this decision will have a number of key considerations for the profession; and

The ongoing skills shortage experienced by the profession generally has resulted in candidates increasingly aware of the engagement structures within the dental profession, and the terms of employment offered. We will explore how an effective recruitment process can increase a practices chance of securing and retaining talent in this competitive market.

Terms and Conditions of Registration

- Registration for events can be cancelled seven (7) days prior to the event for a full refund.
- No refund will be available for cancellation within the seven (7) day period.
- Persons may substitute attendees at any time.  We reserve the right to charge an additional gap fee should the Membership status of the substitute vary to that of the original registrant.
- It is the responsibility of the registrant to ensure all registration details are correct – the appropriate fees are paid – and all dietary requirements are completed where required.
- A registration is only fully valid once payment has been received. 
- Unpaid registrations may be cancelled, and places offered to other Members, if the registration is not paid in full seven (7) days prior to the event.

Photography
- Photographs are occasionally taken of events for the purpose of promotion of future events.  This registration grants us permission to use any images taken.
- Registrants who do not wish their image to be taken must notify our Event Coordinator immediately prior to the commencement of the event on the day.
